چکیده

Primljeno (Received): 2011-10-10 Prihvaćeno (Accepted): 2012-02-28 Original scientific paper In today's medicine, especially in the field of orthopedic surgery, it is very important to use geometrically accurate and anatomically correct geometrical models of human bones for the pre-operative planning and implants creation. In order to create such models, two new methods for geometrical modeling were developed and presented in this paper. These methods enable creation of femur anatomical axis and femur shaft geometrical models, and they are: GCM (Gravity Center Method), and CPM (Curve Projection Method). Both methods enable creation of geometrical models which are based on data acquired from the medical imaging devices (CT, MRI, X-Ray). The basic difference between these two methods and all the others is in the manner of generating the points through which anatomical axis model (3D curve) passes or goes near. The applied methods are developed considering the natural shape and anatomical landmarks of the femur bone, as well as standard CAD techniques for geometrical modeling which are common in engineering.

Different References for Valgus Cut Angle in Total Knee Arthroplasty

Background: The valgus cut angle (VCA) of the distal femur in Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) is measured preoperativelyon three-joint alignment radiographs. The anatomical axis of the femur can be described as the anatomical axis of thefull length of the femur or as the anatomical axis of the distal half of the femur, which may result in different anglesin some cases. During TKA, the anatomical ...

Evaluation of Distal Femoral Rotational Alignment with Spiral CT Scan before Total Knee Arthroplasty (A Study in Iranian Population)

Background: Evaluating the landmarks for rotation of the distal femur is a challenge for orthopedic surgeons. Although the posterior femoral condyle axis is a good landmark for surgeons, the surgical transepicondylar axis may be a better option with the help of preoperative CT scanning. The purpose of this study was to ascertain relationships among the axes’ guiding distal femur rotational ...

راستای اندام تحتانی در بزرگسالان

Background & Aim: Normal axial alignment restoration in lower extremities is very important for surgeons that perform reconstructive surgeries. Since normal values of axial alignment in Iranian population aren't available, normal values in western countries are used in practice.   In this study axial alignment norms in Iranian adults were determined and the results were compared with those of...

Analysis of the Geometry of the Distal Femur and Proximal Tibia in the Osteoarthritic Knee: A 3D Reconstruction CT Scan Based Study of 449 Cases

Background: The aim of this study is to evaluate the geometry of the distal femur and the proximal tibia in the osteoarthritic knee using 3D reconstructive CT scan imaging. Methods: 449 patients with knee osteoarthritis were treated surgically in our center with patient-specific technology total knee arthroplasty. Preoperatively, all the patients underwent a CT scan according to a standard ...

Hip geometry measures can predict femoral neck and intertrohanteric fractures . Controversies in literature

The most commonly used proximal femoral fracture measures for predicting femur neck and intratrochanteric fractures are femoral axis length (FAL), hip axis length (HAL) and the derived Q angle measure (neck-shaft angle). The listed measures only consider the relationship between the diaphysis and the femoral neck but not also between the femoral head and neck. These measures assume the femoral ...
